Our Story
Fjallafang ehf. is a family-owned business that operates a store in Landmannalaugar. The company originally started as Vatnafang ehf., which was formed by siblings from Gíslholt who were hired to thin out the lakes in the Landmannalaugar area. However, due to the increasing number of tourists, demand grew, and the company decided to open its first store. This store operated informally out of the trunk of a Hanomag truck. The family business Vatnafang ehf. thrived with the increasing number of tourists, which sparked their interest in expanding the company. They decided to shift their focus from fishing to retail and consequently changed the company name from Vatnafang to Fjallafang ehf. The siblings from Gíslholt opened the Mountain Mall store in three American school buses, which together comprise a shop, a coffee area, and a lounge. In addition to running the store, the company also manages a horse stables, where travel companies can book daily or overnight rentals.

Dress for the weather
Come prepared, clothing wise. We recommend to come in good hiking shoes for Landmannalaugar’s beautiful hiking trails. This entails a good water- and windproof jacket and pants. Don’t forget to bring your swimsuit to take a dip in the nature pool that Landmannalaugar has to offer.
Location
You can take one of the highland-buses that travel to Landmannalaugar. Other options entail 4x4 cars or reserve a spot with a highland jeep company, which travel to Landmannalaugar.

Charge your devices
It is important if you want to take pictures of the memories you make in Landmannalaugar to have your phone fully charged. A charging bank comes in handy when you are visiting us, so don’t forget to add it to your packing list.
Hiking trails
The nature in Landmannalaugar is beautiful so do not forget to follow the path. It is important to follow our hiking paths because of the 1000 year old moss that grows there. We want to protect our Icelandic nature. Do not forget to respect the nature and please use our bins to dispose of your waste.

Discover the variety of services we offer at Mountain Mall. For our vegan traverlers we offer a home made vegan soup. Nothing tastes better than our grilled cheese sandwiches after a fun day of hicking. We also make fresh sandwiches.
If you are feeling local try our Icelandic rye bread with butter and smoked trout.
Our store
We have a variety of food and necessities. When visiting us you do not have to stop on the grocery store on the way, we have all the go-to’s you need while camping.
Game night
Join us for our thrilling game nights at Mountain Mall. Challenge your friends and family to a friendly competition in the outdoor game Kubbur. Unleash your competitive spirit and have a great time with us. With our cozy ambiance, delicious food, and attentive service, your night will be a memorable one.
